we are not protesting the fact that there IS a billboard and that someone paid for it — we are protesting the beliefs and antiquated idea behind the sentiment, the fact that they exist, THE FACT THAT IT IS EVEN SOMEHOW STILL UP FOR DISCUSSION. We are protesting that many people in this world still think, stunningly, that women are less capable than men at providing for themselves or their families, and even worse, and more dangerous, THAT WOMEN SHOULD NOT USE THEIR VOICES TO STATE THEIR UNHAPPINESS at being marginalized.

We are protesting patriarchy and sexism, and the fact that it exists. We are protesting the NORMALIZATION and acceptance of this antiquated line of thinking.

That is what the billboard protest is about. NOT the fact that someone paid money to make a large statement. NOT the individuals behind it. NOT the ad agency who owns the billboard. NOT the fact that billboard space is able to be purchased for stuff like this. So please, save the “freedom of speech” stuff. Please restrain yourself and re-research what that phrase even means. Folks are mis-using and mis-understanding it as a turn of phrase, and are getting very lazy and cavalier with it.

Once again:
We are protesting patriarchy and sexism, and the fact that it exists. We are not protesting the ad agency who owns the space on the billboard, the individuals behind creating the statement, or the fact that Billboard space can be purchased for something like this. We are protesting the NORMALIZATION and acceptance of this antiquated line of thinking.
